OO scary... and lessons taken from watching anime
So in the hopes that i won't fall behind in my weekly postings... lets get one out right now...
Basically I've had one heck of a day today... basically it was to celebrate a friends B-day (having cake at his house and then going to Edward Gardens after)... but then of course its plain and clear that we're experiencing yet another nasty heat wave (sigh...) so it just ended up haning around the friends house and general area for food etc etc... but for me the festivities were cut short because i had to escort my sister to the airport (she's going to Portugal... btw this is not the same sis that left us with her cats if you don't know yet). anyways getting to the airport was no problem (my sister drove)... but then the question was how do i get home... afterall to date i've only had 2 expereinces on the highway.. one with my mother (not many cars aroudn also), and the other late late at night where there was not a single car around... but this was different... i'm driving on congested and busy roads by myself from the airport...
Needless to say... I got lost trying to find my way out of the airport (the best method was to drive by road... that failed) and ended up on the highway... next thing you know i was on the wrong highway and driving in the totally wrong direction... after freaking out for some while managed to pull out to the streets and got myself reoriented (and got in contact to see if i could still join up with my friends), then managed to find my way back to the right highway... but next thing you know i end up in the expressway (more freaking out... never drove faster then 100km/hr before), so tried to get myself back to the normal side of the route... anyways somehow after merging between lanes a number of times found myself out of the highway and on the my way to meet up with friends for dinner...
Ok now that was the scary part... lets get to the lessons...
Perhaps it was because i felt i did terrible on my most recent test, but anyways i ended up watching some more anime then usual, and decided to watch some oldies too... (seen and never before seen ). Anyways interestingly enough the show/episodes i watched seemed to have some very nice lessons/concepts that it tried or might have tried to get across...
xxxHOLiC - episodes 15/16 dealt with twin sisters, one who was always confident bright cherry and outgoing, while the other was always brooding, very pessismistic etc etc... anyways at one point Yuuko states something like "That some people create chains of words, that burdens one down " meaning that what you say may become true... so in this case the "brooding" sister always states how shes so weak, so hopeless, or something missing will won't be foudn etc etc... and they all come true... Anyways i found this very touching for me... why? because I always say I'm gonna fail... well guess what ... I tend to fail or get really bad marks... you know this is not good for me, because i tend to say other stuff that degrades me and ruins me i guess... afterall I'm not a social person (could it be because i keep saying stuff that relates to socialness that makes it come true... same with relationships etc etc...) etc etc
Nausica (i just had to rewatch it.. was thinking of watching Gunbuster, and reading up on it foudn out that the Gainax founders were huge fans of it... hey afterall where do you think they got the name GunBuster... from Nausica's gunship...) - anyways that humanity must learn to co-exist with the environment or else we will push ourselves to death... in the anime humanity is downgraded and loses most of its technology, because these "God Soldiers" were sent to ravage the Earth eons ago, and now the surviving nations/pockets of humanity face eradication from the dominant plant (toxic)/life (insects) form on the world... and every time that the humans fight back they end up losing land and more lives... yet at the end we learn that the plants are acting as filters to soak up and purify the toxins that were in the ground (left by us in the days prior to humanity's downfall by the "soldiers") and that the insects protect the forests... and that the humans survive on the very same soil/water that has been purified... yet humans keep causing more trouble... and wow what do we see today... humanity causing much damage to the environment, and us suffering as a result.
GunBuster (another oldie one of gainax's early productions... influnced by nausica to some point... well at leats the name anyways.. Anime most known for largest mecha? Largest amounts of death etc etc... Source of the "Gainax bounce" which is the first instant of "having the women's assests jiggle when they move" which we see plenty of today in fan serviced animes...)
- anyways basically this involves an intergalatic war between humanity and an alien race, which in one episode a random person mentioned something along the lines of "that perhaps it is the Galaxy's way of protecting itself from the destructiveness of mankind, by having it eliminated before it could cause trouble..." anyways we end up having humanity unloadings lots of resource/cash/manpower into fighting off the aliens, and they end up creating weapons of mass destruction that destroys everything, leaving Earth with many reprucussions from the shockwaves the wepaon causes in space... and to end it off they destroy the very center of the galaxy at the end... So what in the need to defend oneself, it is ok to destroy ones home in the process?? afterall without the center of the galaxy wouldn't Earth just fly off into space now... just like how Earth orbits the Sun...
another person in the anime stated "Do we even have the right to eliminate an entire species from existence"... its hows how people think they are so superior that they are the only beings worthy of existence? that they could do what they want (ie blow up the center of the galaxy) in order to protect themselves? it shows the humanity tends to take actions without thinking of the reprucussions... like at the very end of the anime because of time dilation (where travelling at near speed of light, time for you slows down while the rest passes by instantaneously) our main charcters arrive home 12,000 years later to a dark and devoid world (though they later see lights spread out across the planet. that does not necessarily mean that humanity has survived, but instead left a final message (welcome home) to the "heros" (even if everyone is long dead) ... Did their actions which were meant to save humanity end up screwing it? afterall they never seriously considered the consequences of what the wepaons may do... The First WMD which was used to save earth, ended up destroying/messing up good portions of it. We never did see what the destruction of the center of the galaxy would cause... (well because the show was over... the titled mecha is now a lump of scrap, and our heros have returned home, to who knows what...)
anyways makes you wonder about what we're doing to our world... man i loved that anime (Gunbuster) if i feel like it i think i'll make yet another rant on Konquest forums...
sorry if this got too long...
