3 month ordeal now nearing its end yay...
oh wow it been close to 3 weeks since i last wrote here...
anyways for those that don't know about (but really i've been practically complaining it for a long while via msn nickname...) i've basically been sufferring (hurting... swollen face, teeth hurts, gums hurt etc etc) from a tooth infection for the past 3 months... for those who already know, bear with me as i'm gonna retell how everything has happened as far as I understand it.
my understanding of it, is this... somehow my teeth died (and not from any physical means.. i'm quite certain i'll know somthing traumatic that happens to my teeth), anyways it dies and all the fluid/blood inside the teeth doesn't get circulated out or something.. and it becomes pus. This then eventually manages to leave via root of the teeth, and infects the nearby gum (ie. abscesed, or however you spell it). This was evidenced by dentist many years ago... but techincally its no big deal, as its too small to do anything.. this was true for me for many years, however near the end of this summer my gums started to hurt and become inflammed. After experiencing close to half my face become a poofy balloon, I went to my dentist. X-Ray taken, (WOW!!! there's a big balloon surrounding my root now) and immiediately he performed a root canal on me...
For those that don't know, this procedure is done by drilling a hole into the back of the teeth (in order to access the root) and cleaning out the "pus".... after that they leave a temp filling, and you return in 2 weeks time.. this time they clean out anything thats infected from within the teeth, then they seal, and your good to go... and the infection
However in my case, this wasn't so. As about 2 weeks later my gums started hurting again, slightly swollen, and teeth beggining to hurt. My dentist told me that i'll have to to a specialist (Endodontist). 2 weels later i'm finally able to meet with him (hey they are specialists.. kinda in high demand...). So he, himself took an x-ray, and checked to see whether my neighbouring teeth were infected. After that he gaved me 3 choices 1) redo the root canal (but my dentist already did too good of a job.. so it wouldn't do any good), 2) pull the teeth, or 3) do the surgery. Well the choice wasn't hard now.. even if i didn't like it... So scheduled my operationfor 2 weeks later.
However 1 weeks later I found out that i had exams that same very week, and i have no clue how i would be right after the surgery. So i had to reschedule it... and and the end of that week, my infection flared again... then again this past weekend...
So now heres the new stuff..
So got myself to the dental office, waited for a nice while (getting more nervous the longer it took). Then the assistant showed me to the room. Not much different from the examination room (except that there was a overhanging microscope in this room). More waiting. The doctor comes in, does all the needed hygenic stuff (hand washing... mouth wash?? well i guess that makes sense since i've got an infection and you don't want to breath more onto me even if your behind a mask...). Then he checked my gums/teeth, and then injected the freezing/anaethestics nto multiple areas. More waiting.. then he randomly started poking me around to see if the freezing has taken place.. some areas yes, some not... more freezing. Then some more probing around, then he begins.
From this point on I had my eyes shut... hey I was traumatized just by being here in this position even before he began anything. So what I say from now on is from what i could feel/understand, and from what i've already read about, and what he later told me). Anyways he begins cutting into my gums (i could tell, via the tugging and *shudder scraping of the tool against the root of the teeth) He cut the gums, and peels it back? Then he used the saw to saw off the "balloon" from my teeth (does that i lost the very tip of my root??). From there i'm guessing he excised the infected flesh from the healthy flesh, and Gah the freezing wasn't able to reach this far down. I was in pain, and i thought a needle was jabbed up into flesh and and tugged around worsening the area... either that or *GASP this isn't surgery.. he's planning on pulling my teeth, (obviously thats not the case). Anyways as such i needed another dose of freezing at this point. after some more time, (and lots more root scraping) they said "all done".. (so i'm guessing at some point he used the microscope to examine the rest of the surrounding area and my teeth to make sure it was A-OK, and they also sealed up the tip of my root). Then they took another x-ray.. with what i could only presume to be my gums still peeled back exposing my roots... "Great!! he exclaims... after seeing the newest x-ray, he's obviously happy. Then they poke around some more, and hen starts stitching me up.
At the end of it i got 5 stiches, and asides for the terrible bout of pain in the middle of the operation. I wasn't in pain. However once the stiches were in, then it started to hit me.. in fact, defferred pain?? some of other were hurting LOL.. dang those stiches. Anyways at the point i was one, listened to the doctors instructions, ate some advil, paid my bill, and then went straight home.. (oh right.. i was wobbly kneed and overall weak after this... My whole body was tensed up the entire time.. only relaxing when i was certain he was no longer doing anything in my mouth (cycle repeats over and over)
So here I am now typing with one hand, as the other holds the pack of ice over the operated area. Oh and what do you know father comes home just when i started typing this, and just as i finish he's now home with my anti-biotics, and painkillers (don't gonna take any chances.. it was optional).
Btw the stitches are to come off Friday.. and hopefully my face won't become swollen (hence the ice pack.. I just hope i have enough Ice to last the night LOL)...
So anyways hopefully all goes well... If so then my ordeal would finally be over... just in time for exams... SIGH!!!
